Therapist Long Bio
In my experience, we each have the potential for happiness and confidence but sometimes life can feel stressful, frightening, uncontrollable or relentlessly tough. We may struggle with complex anxiety, have experienced trauma, depression, confusion, fear, anger, grief or feeling stuck. Counselling can positively improve our lives, and through the professional therapeutic relationship it is possible to recover and gain confidence and the skills to move forwards with a greater sense of wellbeing.
I am warm, down to earth, perceptive and non-judgmental and see counselling as a collaboration in which we begin to make sense of feelings, experiences and beliefs that may be troubling you.
In 2011, I qualified in Person-Centred Counselling, which encourages a non-directive, non-judgemental and empathetic approach. I have further qualified and practiced trauma informed methods, developing a more Pluralistic approach. Working with a variety of mental health difficulties and traumatic life experiences. Along side the talking therapy I may incorporate somatic awareness, creativity and mindfulness techniques when appropriate.
During a session I will listen closely with genuine respect, and reflect back any insights and observations that come up, I do my best not to advise. In my experience as a counsellor, and having had counselling myself, the process can help us to become clearer and feel more empowered to be our unique selves.
I appreciate the courage it can take to engage in counselling, and how helpful it is to speak to someone who is not a family member or friend. I look forward to working together to unravel and resolve, heal and transform difficult feelings with the aim of getting you back on track and feeling more in control of your life.
Alongside counselling, I have over 30 years experience as a Tai chi /Qigong teacher, am an Artist and a parent. I am practical and creative in my approach and also have a wealth of meditation experience as an ordained Buddhist. I am comfortable to explore broader spiritual, philosophical and religious matters.
As well as counselling privately ( www.spiralscounsellingservice.co.uk ), I also work for the charity : CLEAR-Emotional Trauma & Therapy Specialists supporting children, young people and adults who have experienced trauma in their lives.
