Therapist Short Bio
Therapist Long Bio
I understand the importance of feeling safe and secure and trusting one with your worries. I can help build a safe and confidential relationship with which you can express your worries. I offer support that will help you work through any issues you may be encountering. I will aim at working with you to support you in understanding and accepting yourself and your circumstances. I can do that through, listening and communicating with you my understanding of whatever you express. This I believe can facilitate your self-awareness and act as an insightful way of adjusting to a better way of being.
I have a specialist interest in difference and diversity in young and old, women and men, and this was the focal point of my research dissertation. For example, immigration uncertainties, discrimination of race, culture, age, religion, class, disability, etc.
There is a growing rate of mental health issues among young people, and many find it difficult to talk about such issues. Often, they experience anxiety and depression. I understand the importance of mental well-being for children and young people. I have experience working with children and younger people of over 6 years.
I have also worked with women victims and survivors of domestic violence including rape. I also currently offer support to individuals with learning difficulties; however, this is within adult social care capacity and rather not therapeutic. Nonetheless, I can offer therapeutic intervention to individuals with learning difficulties.
Christ-Centered Approach
I am a Christian believing God is vital in any form of healing. I, therefore, use the integration of religion into therapy. I do so in an overt approach that systematically deals with spiritual issues in therapy on the condition of the subject brought up by the client. I also use resources like prayer and scripture - on request.
I look at psychotherapy through the lens of scripture and believe that dealing with human emotions and behaviors requires principles that are compatible with the Bible. I regard the Bible as the infallible Word of God. I spend time studying the Bible and use scripture to govern my thinking as I work with my clients, allowing the Holy Spirit to guide my process and how I interact with my clients.
I appreciate clients come from varying religious backgrounds. Therefore I aim to explore my religious beliefs and values within the initial session, as part of introducing myself and how I work. Also to inform my clients of the availability of prayer should they wish to have it as part of their therapeutic process. I do offer to pray with consent from the client. I will not impose my beliefs on my clients, but rather ensure their autonomy. I use a non-directive approach to therapy, which aims to allow the client to lead their therapeutic process and decision-making. I will walk with the client on the self-exploration journey, helping them to identify solutions to their issues.
My views and beliefs are inspired by my religious background and from a book by Neil T. Anderson, Terry E. Zuehike, and Julianne S. Zuehlke, 2000, Christ-Centered Therapy.
