Do I need therapy?
There is no clear-cut answer to whether someone needs therapy or not but if you are struggling to cope because of issues in your life you may well benefit from some form of therapy. We live in a fast-paced society with little time spent focusing on the here and now, sometimes taking time out to reflect on what is happening day-to-day can help bring clarity to situations and help you to make necessary changes or better decisions.
At TherapyFinders we believe that everyone could benefit from talking things through with someone non-judgemental who has your best interests at heart.
How do I know which therapist is right for me?
This is indeed the most daunting hurdle when it comes to getting the help you need. The TherapyFinders questionnaire has been specifically designed to remove the stress of sifting through pages and pages of therapists with no real understanding of what you are looking for. You can be confident that by using TherapyFinders the hard work of finding the right therapist is done for you.
How long will I be in therapy?
This very much depends on your issue and the type of therapy you undertake. A course of therapy can be from as little as 6 weeks to several years.
What is your therapist verification process and what qualifications should I look for in my therapist?
TherapyFinders has a strict verification process that asks each therapist to hold a level four qualification or higher in studies as well as whether they are a member of a professional body. If they are not part of a professional body, we ask to see their highest certification for confirmation. It is personal preference as to whether you want your therapist to hold other qualifications but the connection between you and your therapist is the most important.
How much should I pay for a session?
This will vary greatly from therapist to therapist, the key thing is to feel comfortable with the amount you are paying. Some of our therapists offer concessionary rates, which means that when they contact you from the booking form, they will discuss their rate with you further to find a suitable alternative.
What if I don’t like my therapist?
It is of the utmost importance that you and your therapist build a strong and trustworthy relationship, therefore if you have decided that you don’t want to continue with your therapist for whatever reason then you would do best to look for someone else. If you do find yourself in this position, then be truthful with your therapist and come to an agreement that your current therapy will end. A professional therapist will understand that not everyone bonds and they will also understand that this is the most important part of the therapeutic process.
Can I try several different therapists?
Absolutely! It is so important that you get the right therapist so if you don’t feel a connection with someone it is better that you find someone who you do. At the end of the first session with any therapist they should ask you whether you would like to continue, there is no obligation to carry on if you feel they aren’t the right person for you.
What should I do if I need immediate support?
If you have a medical emergency, then you should speak to your GP or call 999. If you just want to talk through an immediate issue that you are struggling to cope with you can use our Emotional First Aid service. We can set you up with a qualified counsellor for a one-off online session. After this session you can then decide if it is something you would like to continue with or just leave it there.
